6th Book Festival

The Sixth Tirupati Book Festival was organised by the Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Tirupati Kendra during 4th February to 12th February, 2012 at the sprawling Sri Venkateswara High School grounds, Prakasam Road, Tirupati.

Airing his positive view on book festivals, the Guest of Honour, Sri Galla Ramachandra Naidu, Chairman, Amaraaraja Group of Companies and Vice Chairman of Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan Tirupati Kendra, called it a great opportunity to check out rare books and which were hitherto unavailable. He expressed joy at being able to retrieve one he was searching from his childhood.

The chief guest, Sri J prabhakar Rao, IPS, Superintendent of Police, Tirupati Urban District, expressed concern over srtudents evincing distinterest towards general books, even while being voracious readers of academic content. He called upon schools to assign reading time during school hours. Sri P V Krishna Reddy, Bhavan's Executive Vice Chairman presided, while the Executive Member, Dr Alladi Mohan welcomed the delegates.

Noted publishing houses like Sahitya Acadamy, Ramakrishna Vivekananda Publications, Veda Bharati, Rainbow, Navaratna, Scholastic etc., setup 50 stalls at the expo.

Debate competitions for college students, Quiz competitions for different school stude ts and written quiz for mothers were conducted during the fest. The public were entertained by various cultural programs.

The nine day book festival came to a grand close on 12th February, 2012. Speaking on the occassion, the Chief Guest Sri L V Subramanyam, IAS, Executive Officer, T T D and chairman of Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan Tirupati Kendra emphasised the need to inculcate the habit of book reading among children. He said that books are the best guides, friends and philosophers.He opined that books can inspire and provide solutions and can improve logical thinking o achieve all round development. He appreciated the contribution of Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Tirupati Kendra for organising such festivals for the past six years. The guest of honour Dr B Vengamma, Director Svims, said that in the present technology dominated society such book festivals are very much needed and values and communication skills can be improved with reading books.

Dr N Satyanarayana Raju, Hony. Director & Treasurer, Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Tirupati Kendra emphasised the importance of organising book festivals. The convenor, Smt Sujatha, Principal, Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan's S V Vidyalaya proposed the vote of thanks.
