7th Book Festival

VII Tirupati Book Festival was organized by the Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Tirupati Kendra at the sprawling Sri Venkateswara High School Play Grounds, Prakasam Road, Tirupati from 2nd February, 2013 to 10th February,2013.

The fair was inaugurated by Shri L.V.Subrahmanyam, I.A.S., Chairman, Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan and Executive Officer, Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams, Tirupati. Shri Ch.Penchal Reddy, Vice-Chairman, TUDA graced the occasion as the Guest of Honour and Dr B. Vengamma, Director, SVIMS, presided over the day’s function.

The Guests were welcomed by Dr N. Satyanarayana Raju, Hony Director and Treasurer, Bhavan’s Tirupati Kendra. In his address, Shri L.V. Subrahmanyam, explained how books have been instrumental in building the society and urged the parents to inculcate book reading habit among the children. He stated that book is the best guide, friend and philosopher and inferred that the purpose of reading is to accomplish certain values of life for betterment of relationship which is needed. He appealed to the book lovers and the public to gift books to the guests when they visit their houses and on birth day occasions.

In his speech, Shri Ch. Penchal Reddy, opined that books can change the outlook of the society and also expressed that books are the source of enlightenment. He requested all the educational institutions, both government and private to encourage their students to visit the festival and purchase books for their library.

Dr B. Vengamma, also urged the parents to encourage the younger generation to inculcate the habit of book reading, which is very essential for the active functioning of the brain.

The Guests were honoured by Prof P.V. Arunachalam, Former Vice-Chancellor, Drvidian University and Prof P. Murali, Former Vice-Chancellor, S.V. University, Tirupati.

55 publishers from across the State and Country participated in both languages English & Telugu. Noted publishers like Prism, Scholastic, Great Books, Emesco, Ramakrishna Mission publications showcased their best sellers. The fair provided an opportunity for the book lovers of Tirupati to pick up a variety of books ranging from fiction to spirituality. Competitions like Quiz for school students on Recipe Writing for Ladies and Fancy Dress for Tiny Tots added an attraction to the fair. Talks on share your views on ‘A Good Book I have read’ by eminent persons enlilghtened the visitos about new and interesting books.

The Valedictory function was graced by Shri S.V. Rajasekhar Babu, IPS, Superintendent of Police, Tirupati Urban, who was the Chief Guest. Dr Galla Ramachandra Naidu, Chairman, Amararaja Group of Companies and Vice-Chairman, Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Tirupati Kendra, presided over the day’s function. In his Welcome address Dr N. Satyanarayana Raju, Hony Director and Treasurer, appreciated Shri S.V.Rajasekhar Babu, for his commendable security arrangements during the World Telugu Conference held at Tirupati which was inaugurated by our Hon’ble President Shri Pranab Mukherjee ji. He also appreciated the efforts of Dr Galla Ramachandra Naidu in creating employment and providng facilities in the form of education and other amenities.

In his Presidential Address, Dr Galla Ramachandra Naidu called Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan as a notable example not only in the filed of education but also in various spheres related to culture and heritage. The Chief Guest Shri S.V. Rajasekhara Babu, emphasized on the importance of book reading in developing ones personality and urged the public to utilize such book fairs.

The function was attended by the distinguished guests like Dr Agarala Eswara Reddi, Former Speaker, A.P. Assembly, Executive Committee Members of Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Tirupati Kendra, Shri P.V.Krishna Reddy, Shri R.V.Jagga Rao and Dr Krishna Prashanti.
