8th Book Festival

The VIII Tirupati Book Festival was flagged off with a procession by the Bhavan's Tirupati Kendra Members, Staff, Students and a few parents from the Mahati Auditorium to the S V High School play grounds, the venue for the book festival on 1st February, 2014. The holy scriptures like the Ramayana, the Mahabharatha and the Bhagavadgita were carried in a palanquin with all honours,the 9-Day Book festival was inaugurated by the Chief Guest of the day, Sri K.Ramgopal, I.A.S., District Collector, Chittoor District and Sri M.G.Gopal, I.A.S., Executive Officer, Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams. Sri M.G.Gopal, I.A.S., the chairman, Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Tirupati Kendra, presided over the inauguration function.

Prof.P.Vijayalakshmi, Registrar, Sri Padmavathi Mahila Viswa Vidyalayam was the Guest of Honour. The school prayer was followed by the lighting of the lamp. The guests of the day were welcomed by Dr.Alladi Mohan, Associate Professor, SVIMS, Tirupati and Associate Secretary of the Bhavan.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr N Satyanarayana Raju, Hony. Director and Treasurer, Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Tirupati Kendra enlighted the audience about the purpose of organizing a Book Festival in Tirupati. He said that Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan started the Book Festival with 26 stalls in the year 2006 and this year, there are 67 stalls. Several programmes and competitions are being organized for children and parents at the venue. Sri M G Gopal, I A S., said that such festivals are occasions when like minded people can meet to share their views and tastes regarding various books. He said that, books commonly cut across the barriers of age and bring everyone under one common roof. He said that with the improvement of technology, it could be possible to download good books ad E books which could be read by children of all ages on I-Pods and Tabs which attract children in the modern times.

Talking on the ocasion, the Distric Collecotr Shri K Ramgopal, I A S in his message said that they can never be a substitute for a good book. He said that books are the windows to the world. There is no better companion for person, than a book. He recalled that India has the oldest literature in the world.

Prof. P Vijayalakshmi, Registrar, Sri Padmavathi Mahila Viswa Vidayalayam, Professor of Journalism said that print is a hot media whre books stretch ones own imagination. On the other hand, T V is a cold media which dictates the viewers. So the parents should encourage children toread good books. The guests were felicitated and the vote of thanks was proposed by Mrs K Hymavathi.Sri P V Krishna Reddy, Prof. P Murali, Sri G Vedaparayana graced the occasion.

The Book Festival concluded on 09th February, 2014. Sri P V Krishna Reddy, Executive Vice Chairman, Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, chaired the valedictory function. Dr N Satyanarayana Raju, Hony. Director and Treasurer, Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan introuced the Chief Guest Smt. S P Sailaja and Smt Jalandhara Chandra Mohan to the audience. Smt S P Sailaja, renowned cine playback singer in all the south Indian languages said that though there is great advance and development technology. It is only book reading that can help the development of human thoughts and man power. She advised parents to inculcate the habit of book reading in children and to encourage them to read good books. She said that elders should be the role models as children follow them even in developing the habit of book reading. She enthralled the audience with a song.

Taling on the occasion, Smt Jalandhara Chandra Mohan who is a famous writer and also a literary critic said that literature is immortal. Famous writers like Shakespere, WorrdsWorth, Milton, Premchand etc.,live forever in the form of thier literary creations. She greatly appreciated the efforts of Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan in encouraging the habit of book reading amoung the public through such book fairs.

Prof. P Murali, Former Vice Chancellor, S V University advised the younger generations to make use of the literary creations of the previous generations to improve their future. He said that reading alowasy improves thinking and analytical power of the mind.

The chief guests gave away prizes to the winners of different competitions in various events and various categories held during the book fest. The chief guests were feliciated by the committee memers Sri E Phalguana Kumar and Dr Alladi Mohan.

Dr N Satyanarayana Raju declared that the 9th Tirupati Book Festival would be organized from 31st January, 2015 to 8th February, 2015. The vote of thanks was proposed by Sri C Kailash, Associate Secretary, Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Tirupati Kendra.
