Sravana Sangeetha Lahari 2015

The month of Sravana is considered to be one of the holiest months of the year as many religious festivals and ceremonies are celebrated in this month. It is the month to perform spiritual practices for success. It is marked by auspicious activities and rituals and is a month of austerity and simplicity. 'Sravan' is to hear. Therefore, it is said that listening to discourses, speeches and sermons this month leads to special fruits. India is a land of rich culture and heritage. Since the beginning of our civilization, music, dance and drama have been an integral aspect of our culture. Presently these art forms have become means of infotainment for people all over the world.

The 10th year of Sravana Sangeetha Lahari - 2015, pays tribute to the great saint 'Bhadrachala Ramadasa' by rendering offerings in the form of music and dance. The programme was formally inaugurated with the lighting of the lamp by the Chief Guest of the Day Veena Gana Gandharva Shri Pudukottai R. Krishna Murthy, Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan's Hon. Director and Treasurer, Dr N. Satyanarayana Raju, Prof. P. Murali, Bhavan's Executive Committee Member and the Principal.

The school Principal Smt. S. Indira, welcomed the guests. During his address, Dr N. Satyanarayana Raju expressed his happiness in reviving 'Kala Kendra', where music and dance are taught to students. He urged the parents to encourage children to learn Veena and Flute which are sanathana instruments of Indian culture. He emphasised that music is necessary for spiritual development.

The Guest of Honour Prof. P. Murali, in his address stated that heritage and culture of country should be safeguarded for the future generation. Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan has started Sravana Sangeetha Lahari as a part of this ideology. Music and dance help bring mental solace as well as a very good physical exercise.

The Chief Guest of the Day appreciated the schooling system in Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, where character building is emphasised. He stated that, cultural values can be inculcated through the learning of music & dance and Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan provides a platform to students for wholesome development.

The Chief Guest and Smt. Padma Krishna Murthy were felicitated by the Bhavan's Director, Bhavan's Executive Committee Members, the Principal and the Vice-Principal.

The students paid homage to great saint Bhadrachala Ramadasa through Sri Ramadasa Navarathna Keerthana Sumamala. The spell binding performance of the participants mesmerised the audience.

The programme was attended by Dr B. Vengamma, Director, SVIMS; Prof. P. Murali, Prof. P. Sudhakara Reddy; Dr Alladi Mohan, Shri C. Kailash, Bhavan's Executive Committee Members; Shri Alladi Srikumar, Dr.Alok Sachan, Bhavan's SMC Members, students, parents, teachers and music lovers attended.

The programme concluded with Vote of Thanks proposed by Smt. K. Hymavathi, Sr Vice-Principal.
