A week-long fete to mark Srikrishnadevaraya's 500th Coronation

The great king Srikrishnadevaraya, visited Tirumala 7 times during his reign and made a number of offerings to Lord Venkateswara. He also provided many facilities and amenities to the people living in and around Tirupati. As a tribute to his services, Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Tirupati Kendra celebrated the 500th coronation of Srikrishnadevaraya. A week-long cultural fete starting from 16th April to 22nd April, 2010 was held As a part of its annual "Vasantha Pravachanamrutham" - a series of cultural discourses, marking the onset of the Spring was organized.

Srikrishnadevaraya's coronation ceremony titled "Srikrishnadevaraya Vaijayanthi" began with a cultural note on 16th April, 2010. Dressed as "Ashtadiggajas" of Krishnadevaraya's court, eight renowned poets of Tirupati took part in the procession from Alipiri to Thyagaraja Mandapam and later enacted the magnum opus "Bhuvana Vijayam." Sahassravadhani, Sri Medasani Mohan, adorned the throne as Srikrishnadevaraya.

Former Attorney General of India, K.Parasaran, who took part as the Chief Guest expressed his liking for the Telugu language for its mellifluous note and rhythm. He also hailed the emperor Krishnadevaraya, a born Kannadiga, for exquisitely writing the "Amuktamalyada" in Telugu and various Sanskrit works.

Stepping into the shoes of the poets, the participants regaled the audience with their flowery quotes drawn from their respective literary works like "Parijathapaharanam", "Kalahasthi Mahatmyam" etc.

Dr.Medasani Mohan gave an enlightening discourse on various facets of the emperor, besides the several literary works authored by him and those composed under his royal patronage by his court poets. He also explained the greatness of the emperor in providing able administration besides extending support to arts, craft and literature during the week-long programme.

The ceremony came to a grand close on 22nd April in the presence of the day's guest Sri P.R.Rama Subramanya Raja, Chairman, Ramco Group of Industries with the discourse on "Godakalyanam".

A scene from Srikrishnadevaraya's royal court "Bhuvana Vijayam" was enacted by the students of the school, which received tumultuous response from the audience.
